Engineering Degree Was Crucial to Benes’ Career
Since age 8, Milwaukee native Thomas Benes always wanted to fly airplanes. Born into a long line of tool makers, fabricators and machinists, he also loved science, working with his hands, and figuring out how machines were put together.
First in his family to earn a college degree, Benes received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1974 and spent the next several decades flying fighter jets for the U.S. Marine Corps from aircraft carriers and bases in Japan, Europe and the Pacific. (more…)
Bray Elected President of Society of Manufacturing Engineers
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) announced the election of an industry leader as its 2013 president. Dennis Bray (BSME, ’76, PhD, 89), FSME, was sworn in along with the rest of the 2013 SME Executive Committee and Board of Directors at the Society’s Awards & Installation Banquet held November 10, 2012, in Las Vegas. Sprecher Engineering $8.2 Billion Purchase of NYSE
Jeffrey Sprecher (BSCBE, ’78), 57, is co-founder, CEO and chairman of IntercontinentalExchange, firm headquartered in Atlanta that operates electronic trading exchanges in the U.S. and overseas. Founded in 2000, the company has grown to a roughly $9 billion exchange with $1.3 billion in revenue via approximately a dozen acquisitions.
